Ovarian Cancer Chemotherapy
Ovarian cancer chemotherapy: Survival strategies
In the present days one of the most common cancers among the women is ovary cancer. Nowadays ovary cancer is treated with chemotherapy. Ovarian cancer chemotherapy involves the treatment where the drugs are injected into the body through veins into the bloodstream. Chemotherapy is mostly applied after the surgery in the ovary and especially when the patient is suffering from the 1c or higher stage of ovary cancer. Chemotherapy is also used in case of the ovary cancer when the cancer cell recurs after the patient has undergone the first treatment of cancer.
Ovarian cancer chemotherapy includes insertion of the cancer drugs to the body through veins in order to help the drug to circulate and spread throughout the body through the stream of blood. This process of injecting the drugs is known as intravenous injection or IV. The intravenous injection of chemotherapy is given to the patient for about three to four weeks and this treatment is repeated nearly about six times. But in some unusual cases the treatment is repeated for about 12 times. The duration of the insertion of the drug in the ovarian cancer is more than three hours. In this case one can take the drug from the department of outpatient. But in some severe cases it is nearly about 24 hours and in this situation one has to spend the whole night in the hospital.
There are several drugs used in the ovarian cancer chemotherapy and depending on the severity, duration and the type the oncologist prescribes the adequate drug with adequate dose. If someone is in the earliest stage of ovary cancer she is either given paclitaxel and carboplatin or only carboplatin. This drug is mainly given to the cancer sufferer after the surgery of the cancer in the ovary.
Many researches have been by the scientists on the ovarian cancer chemotherapy. Several studies have been carried out to see which drug most effectively deals with the treatment of the ovary cancer by stopping the reproduction of the cancer cell in the ovary and thus allowing it to shrink. A study carried out in the yea 1999 showed that the drugs of platinum like carboplatin and cisplatin when combined with the drugs of chemotherapy helps the women to live longer life.
In addition to this drug several other advanced and highly modernized drugs of ovarian cancer chemotherapy have been invented and are highly used consumed by the women on the recommendation of the doctor after the first surgery of the ovary cancer or after the recurrence of the cancer cells after undergoing the first treatment. In the year 2005 a study has been carried out which dealt with the drugs treating the cancer cell which have recurred after the first treatment.
Ovarian cancer chemotherapy is sometimes accompanied with dietary supplement. Recently doctors are more concerned about the supplement and often prescribe herbal medications and dietary supplement. The researchers are trying different options that can go with chemotherapy in order to preserve the health of the patient. However it has not yet been discovered how well chemotherapy interacts with supplements.
