Effects of chemotherapy

Effects of chemotherapy: Nausea Vomiting Anorexia

We all know that mesothelioma cancers cells develop and multiply very quickly. Their growth rate is much faster than the ordinary cells. We are aware that there are some normal cells that develop very rapidly. This is one of the effects of chemotherapy. They are the cells that are present in the reproduction system and the hair follicles. The side effects of the therapy depend upon the kind of therapy that a patient undergoes.

Before the chemotherapy treatment begins for the mesothelioma patients they need to sign an agreement form. But one should be very cautious before signing the form. The doctor who will be administering the chemotherapy treatment should make the patients aware of all the effects of chemotherapy. The patient and the family members should have all the information about the drugs that are being used and the amount of risks involved.

Proper mention of all details should be present in the agreement. Whether the patient needs hospitalization or not is also mentioned in the form. Full mention of the drugs and the effects of chemotherapy are known to the patient and the family members before the therapy. While giving chemotherapy treatment to mesothelioma cancer patients anti-nausea treatment should be given. The patients often suffer from nausea. These are some of the mild and temporary side effects of chemotherapy.

The patient undergoing chemotherapy may suffer from vomiting, anorexia, loss of hair, and mouth sores. Sometimes blood cells are also destroyed. This might lead to infection. The other effects of chemotherapy are varied. Minor cuts could lead to blood clotting, breathing problems can also develop. Sometimes the whole body is affected due to chemotherapy. Let us look at some of the effects that chemotherapy has on the mesothelioma cancer patients.

One of the common side effect of chemotherapy is loss of hair. During the therapy drugs that kill cancerous cells are given to the patient. The drugs are either injected or given as drip into the muscle tissue or vein. After the drug is given it flows into the blood stream. When the patient is administered with chemotherapy oral drugs cannot be taken. The side effects of chemotherapy may vary as per the drugs administered.

The drugs destroy the rapidly developing cancerous cells. The effect of chemotherapy can be seen on the blood cells. They too are destroyed during the therapy. The main job of the blood cells is to fight any infection and does not allow clotting of blood. But as the blood cells are affected the blood cells are unable to perform any functions. The patients tend to bleed easily, unable to fight infection and become tired easily as the blood cells are unable to carry oxygen to different parts of the body.

The effects of chemotherapy thus seem to be difficult apparently but in the long run it should help a person to fight against the disease.
