CMF chemotherapy is type of treatment that is used to treat breast cancer. This therapy is immensely effective in generating a better result. Fluorouracil, cyclophosphamide and methotrexate are the three drugs that are used in this specific chemotherapy treatment so that a patient can recover from this deadly disease. In CMF chemotherapy a patient receives chemotherapeutic drugs which are transferred through a flexible tube. There are four different types of schedules are maintained in CMF chemotherapy. At the very initial stage cyclophosphamide pills are given that a patient has to take continuously for a fortnight. When a patient completes the entire course of the drug cyclophosphamide, she will be provided a rest period for two consecutive weeks so that her body can cope up with the changes after taking those powerful drugs. The second stage of CMF treatment starts four weeks after the first injection of Methotrexate. 5FU, methotrexate and cyclophosphamide are used in this second phrase. These drugs are highly effective in dealing with the disease of breast cancer. After the completion of the treatment, she will be given two weeks rest period. When the next phrase of treatment starts, the same drugs are applied once again. Patient will get a three week repose time and after the completion of this phrase a patient has to undergo another phrase and that completes the entire circle of CMF chemotherapy. Though the time may vary, it can take a maximum time of six months to complete this process.
Side effects are certainly the unpleasant side of a treatment and CMF chemotherapy is not completely free from it. The severity of those side effects may vary from woman to woman. Anemia is the most common type of side effect. One can feel tired because of this disease. Vomiting and nausea are the two frequent side effects of this treatment. Sickness is another prominent side effect that can certainly bother a patient. If a patient is feeling too sick, she must have to consult with a doctor. The thickness of hair can be reduced due to side effect. When a patient is undergoing this treatment, she can feel that her taste of food is changed. But one regains her normal taste after the completion of the treatment.
